Heavy Metal Sculpted Flex Circuits - High Power Applications
Thursday, October 9
E-FAB builds high power, high voltage, high current flex circuits for military or commercial applications too.
Are you looking for a bendable flex circuit for high powered applications? Have you asked a flex shop about building sculpted flex circuits that have traces .010 to .060 inches thick? And of course, they said, "it can't be done."
E-FAB is here to tell you the good news, "sculpted flex with .010 to .060 inches thick traces most definitely can be built." E-FAB knows how to build precision sculpted flex circuits for you. We have the engineering, technical capabilities, and manufacturing processes in place to manufacture your heavy metal flex circuits, for high power, high current, and high voltage applications today.
Take a look at E-FAB's precision flex circuits capabilities and how our unique PCM fabrication and manufacturing processes can be of great benefit to you in your hybrid flex circuit engineered designs.

Do you use precision progressive etching to achieve .060 thick copper circuits? and can you etch silver circuits?

Yes E-FAB can do progressive etching. Typically, when a design has multiple depth requirements, we would go in with one image, etch down to a specific depth, strip the panel, lay down a second image pattern that exposes specific areas to be etched down to another given depth, and by repeating this process a number of times, we can produce multiple depth etching.
Theoretically, E-FAB can do up to .060 thick circuits, with the limitations being that as the material gets thicker, the lines and spaces get larger. The minimum line width will be equal to the thickness of the material, and the minimum space will be 25% wider than the material thickness.
The answer to your second question, "can you etch silver circuits?" is not something that we have done in a production run setting. However, E-FAB has made some silver parts for an optics company sometime back. There has not been much of a customer inquiry into silver etching, but let us know if that is something that you are interested in.
If you are in the process of designing a board now and are looking forward to getting more information on the design requirements from a manufacturing standpoint, please contact E-FAB today. If you already have an engineering design, we are more than happy to give you a quote on that too.
By-the-way, because E-FAB has the capabilities to manufacturer flex boards and hybrid flex circuits using a variety of different chemical etching processes; in which a typical flex board shop would find difficult or impossible to do, we are ideally suited to be able to produce all types of flex circuits using a wide array of exotic materials and alloys.
